How to prevent choking?
1Sit while eating: Children are more likely to choke if they eat while running around, playing, and lying down; so sitting at a table or even on the floor will reduce the risk. Always supervise mealtimes.
|
4Keep food pieces small: Avoid high-risk foods until children can chew well. Cut food into pieces no larger than one-half inch or smaller than a pea. Encourage children to chew food well before swallowing. Cook, grate, or mash hard foods. Offer liquids between mouthfuls, but solids and liquids should not be swallowed at the same time.
